European diabetes-focused company publicly traded on Euronext, looking to add (2) entrepreneurial female board members with strong scientific background plus extensive deal and partnership experience in cell therapy and/or diabetes space. French speaking a plus.
- Strategy – Strategy focused on candidates both US and Europe, with a diverse slate split between both continents. Interviewed approximately 45 women. Diverse candidate slate of big pharma M&A, Chief Business Officer, sitting CEO, COO for biotech companies.
Mandate – Managing Directors Venture Capital & Philanthropic Venture Funds
Newly established philanthropic venture fund looking to add a second Managing Director, with investing experience in early-stage biotech and/or med tech.
- Strategy – Search Strategy encompassed experienced Principals and well as Partners, EIRs at VC firms, CVC firms. Interviewed 50+ prospective candidates in Europe and US.
Mandate – Chief Medical Officer
Seeking their first Chief Medical Officer for a US based biotech company focused on novel immunomodulation therapies for inflammatory diseases for dermatology and ophthalmology indications. Additionally, they were looking to IPO on NASDAQ and needed someone with a strong track record of drug approvals confidence inspiring for the roadshow.
- Strategy – Looking for a someone possessing both and MD and PhD with broad experience in inflammation. Identified novel drug approvals in inflammation, ophthalmic and dermatology. Interviewed and produced a diverse slate with candidates (dual degree MD/PhD) in the US and Europe. Company went on the a successful IPO and subsequent acquisition.
Mandate – Chief Commercial Officer
European start-up diagnostic company that has developed technology with the potential to revolutionize microbiological and fungal testing of biological samples. It analyses hundreds of microbial and fungal species in cell-free samples with a high degree of accuracy in a fraction of the time needed with classical methods. The product is ready to be launched, first in Europe.
- Strategy – We focused primarily on people having commercial experience and a network of KOLs in the microbiological analytical space, in particular in central and academic labs. The successful candidate was a highly experienced individual who has launched several new products and has a huge network in the major markets in Europe as well as in the USA.
Mandate – Chief Scientific Officer
European VC-backed biotech developing a new class of antibodies that have the ability to penetrate the cell membrane and thus can bind to intracellular targets. The company focuses on oncology and viral diseases.
- Strategy – We were looking for individuals with experience bridging the gap between preclinical research and clinical development. Demand for people with that profile and experience in (immune)oncology is high and competition is fierce. By casting our web as wide as possible we were able to attract a highly experienced and energetic professional.
Founder & Managing Director
Elizabeth brings more than 15 years of senior-level executive search experience focused in the biotech industry. She has expertise conducting global searches for the recruitment of C-suite and Board of Directors for VC and PE backed high growth companies. . She has conducted Chief Scientific Officers, Chief Medical Officers as well as recruited Vice President-level executives in Translational Medicine, Clinical Development, Medical Affairs for early stage as well as established pharmaceutical, biotech companies and venture capital firms in the US and Europe.
Prior to creating her own firm, Elizabeth served as a Partner at DHR International, a global search firm where she conducted searches for rapidly evolving companies in the biopharma, specialty pharma and diagnostics sectors and expanded the firm’s relationships with the venture capital community.
Elizabeth also served as the Recruiting Partner for Essex Woodlands Health Ventures; a leading life sciences focused venture capital firm with $2.5 B under management. In that role, she was responsible for developing strategic relationships with C-Level executives across all sectors of the healthcare industry. She also advised portfolio companies on recruiting senior executives, board members and advisors.
Additionally, she spearheaded the firm’s efforts to significantly expand their team of investment professionals as they closed a $600M fund.
Earlier in her career, Elizabeth was a member of Heidrick & Struggles’ Global Healthcare Practice. With her extensive experience recruiting globally in the Life Sciences sector, she has built a strong network of senior-level relationships with executives in healthcare companies and world-renowned thought leaders at leading academic research centers in US and Europe. She is known for providing highly creative and innovative solutions to her clients’ human capital needs.
Elizabeth holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Gettysburg College. She has lived and worked in Europe and is fluent in French. She resides in Manhattan with her husband, and their son.
Theo de Roij, DVM and PhD
Theo has more than 15 years of experience as an executive search consultant. He has conducted numerous search assignments for C- and VP-level R&D, commercial, business development, general management, RA, QA, manufacturing and health economics/market access roles for European, American and Japanese life science companies. This includes VC–backed start-ups and mature, multinational biopharma, diagnostic, medtech and animal health companies. He has also recruited investment directors for VC companies. Prior to joining Artis BioMedica, he worked at a top-10 global and two specialist life science executive search and talent management companies.
In addition to his experience as an executive search professional, Theo has more than 25 years of practical, hands-on experience in executive roles in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries. He held senior executive positions including Vice President, Business and Product Development at an immuno-oncology-focused U.S. biotech company, Head of Worldwide Business Development at GSK Vaccines, and business development and R&D management positions at Solvay Animal Health. He started off his career as Department Head at a Dutch CRO.
Theo is a Dutch citizen, who has lived and worked in the Netherlands, Belgium, the U.S. and Ireland. He is a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and holds a doctorate degree in pharmacology from Utrecht University, the Netherlands. Besides Dutch, he is fluent in English, French and German.
